HealthStyles Market Cooks... Coconut Cream Recipe

Coconut Cream

Non-dairy whipped cream substitute.

Ingredients:1 can Native Forest coconut milk (13.5 ounce can)
1 tsp. Frontier vanilla extract
1 tbsp. Xyla Xylitol

*This requires some planning ahead. Start by placing an unopened can of coconut milk in the fridge at least 3 days prior to when you want to use the whipped cream- it needs time for the water and fat to separate.
Also, the key is to use only the thickest, fattiest part of the coconut milk.

When you are ready to make the cream:

  1. Open the bottom of the can and skim off the fat from the water. Use the fat for the cream. Use the water for something else.
  2. In the same bowl with the coconut milk fat, add the vanilla and sweetener.
  3. Beat on high with a mixer until the desired consistency. It does take much longer to thicken coconut milk, but it will eventually thicken.
  4. Store the whipped coconut cream in the fridge to keep it thick.

(At this point I am not sure how long it will remain thick, but I think for longer than real whipped cream.)

Dear Preferred Customers:

I want to share with you a little about my trip in October to the Century Wellness Clinic in Reno, Nevada! centurywellness.com

A very special customer friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer.  She asked me to accompany her to the clinic and be her support person for a week of her treatments.
I was thrilled to say yes! and it was a wonderful experience!

Meeting Dr. Forsythe and his staff of doctors, nurses and support people was so enlightening and I learned so much!  But my favorite part?  Oh, the patients of course!  The week I was there, I met patients from all over the USA, plus Canada and I so loved hearing their stories!  Many of them had suffered so much before being diagnosed with their cancer, only to be told by their doctors at home that there was no real help nor hope for them!  Their research brought them in touch with Dr. Forsythe and his extremely creative approach to cancer treatment and it was so heart warming to hear their progress and successes!  To see them responding to the treatment protocol's and feeling good all while battling cancer was so encouraging!

Perhaps you have seen the wonderful book on cancer, Knockout, by Suzanne Somers? suzannesomers.com In chapter 9, she interviews Dr. Forsythe and they discuss his innovative approach to treating cancer! He uses fractionated low-dose chemotherapy with Insulin Potentiated Therapy (IPT) along with non-toxic natural and homeopathic remedies.  In addition, he includes vitamins, minerals, herbal and immune stimulating treatments, all which are personalized for the patient.

For more than a quarter century, thousands of patients from all parts of the globe have experienced health-enhancing therapies at their center.

I so enjoyed meeting Dr. Forsythe and getting to spend a few minutes with him while he autographed my books!  He is a very humble and gracious man with a very compassionate heart and solid commitment to his patients regaining their health!

Please check out their website and direct your family and friends with cancer to research this option further - call the Clinic and ask questions!  I was so thrilled that my friend was willing to go to the Clinic FIRST before entering into any of the traditional methods of treatment so her prognosis is excellent!

One of the diet changes that the patients are asked to make immediately is to STOP ALL SUGAR!  Sugar feeds cancer!  The only allowed sweetners while on the cancer treatment protocols is Xylitol xylitolusa.com and stevia sweetleaf.com.  So I have been working up some recipes, especially with these patients in mind, but also because all of us would do well to eat less sugar!

During the holidays...sugar is a main ingredient in practically every traditional family recipe!  We will be adding recipes that are traditional, familiar and delicious, yet using only xylitol and stevia to sweeten them!  We stock all of the ingredients used in our recipes - so stop in our store soon to stock up!  Be sure to check out our recipe rack and pick up copies of the recipes to make for your loved ones!

Please let me know if you try them! Please share with me any recipes that you have tried using only these two sweetners!  I look forward to seeing your comments!

One more thing that I would like to add about the Century Wellness Clinic, is that more than ten years ago, I had another customer who went to Reno and regained her health and life back after being told by our local oncologist "that there was nothing more they could do for her and she needed to go home and get her affairs in order"!  I am so excited to see that she is one of the testimonials on their website and its always a thrill to see her when she comes in our store!

I am putting a photo album together of the Century Wellness Clinic that I will have available in our library area and I am always happy to answer questions...and help you in any way that I can!

See you soon!

Arlys

October Is NON GMO Month!

We are supporting your right to know what's in your food and to choose NON GMO!

What is GMO? Genetically Modified Organisms, which means that plants are created through gene splicing.

GM foods were passed with the idea that they would produce more crops, save on water, enhance nutritional value, and produce more durable crops. However, no evidence of increase in crops, drought tolerance, and enhanced nutrition has shown thus far.

Unfortunately there is no mandatory labeling for GMO products, despite polling which shows a significant majority of Americans want to know if they're purchasing GMOs.

The NON GMO Project was created to give consumers the informed choice they deserve.

We are celebrating the NON GMO Project here at HealthStyles Market with a NON GMO Giveaway!

For every $25 you spend on qualifying purchases of NON GMO products, you will receive an entry into our NON GMO Project Giveaway for a chance to win a bag full of various NON GMO Project certified items!

There will be 10 winners!

So be sure to stop in and participate during the whole month of October for more chances to win!

Also, be sure to check out our bulletin board featuring information on the NON GMO Project and pick up a copy of the brochure available for other information to help you made a better informed decision.

As a store, we are committed to providing you with the highest quality foods and supplements available - our dedication to NON-GMO has us transitioning to have our whole store be certified organic and NON-GMO in every department!

We hope to see you soon!

Do You Know About Essential Fatty Acids?

Fatty Acids are building blocks that aid in composing fats and oils in the body. These fatty acids are commonly known as essential fatty acids because as opposed to popular belief, the body needs fats to function properly.
Every cell living in the body needs EFAs to help rebuild and create new cells. They are also used in the body to help with the productions of prostaglandins, which is a hormone-like substance that acts in a chemical manner to send messengers and regulators to various functions of the body. Cell function depends on a balanced intake of EFAs.
Because these EFAs cannot be made by the body, we must supplement them into our diet. The easiest and most effective way to ensure you get enough fatty acids is with supplements, though you can also get EFAs from food sources.

There are two most common categories of EFAs: omega-3 and omega-6. Omega-6 EFAs, including linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids, can be most commonly found in raw nuts, seeds and legumes. They can also be primarily found in vegetable oils like borage, grape seed, primrose, sesame and soybean oils. Omega-3 EFAs, including alpha-linolenic and eicosapentaenoic (EPA), can be found in deepwater fish, fish oil and flaxseed and walnut oils.
Studies show In order for these oils to be beneficial, they must be in a pure liquid or supplement form and not heated. Heating the oil destroys the EFAs and can result in creation of harmful free radicals. Also, if these oils are hydrogenated, the linoleic acid is converted into a trans-fatty acid, which is not beneficial to the body.
EFAs have many beneficial effects on many various disorders. They can help improve hair and skin with disorders like eczema and psoriasis. They also have the potential to reduce blood pressure and the risk of blood clot formations. Studies show that EFAs can lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels as well as benefiting cardiovascular disease.

EFAs are also aid in the transmission of nerve impulses and in normal development in the brain. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is specifically very beneficial to brain for its support of brain function, memory, and mood. This makes it the perfect supplement for any child or infant to help their growing, healthy brain develop. A deficiency in EFAs can impair the ability to learn and recall information.
There are two very beneficial fatty acids in omega-3; eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). As well as one in the omega-6; gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There are specific benefits that come from these fatty acids. And they are very helpful and effective on various disorders.

Benefits of Essential Fatty Acids

EPA supports healthy heart & body by:
*Maintaining heart and circulatory systems
*Enhances joint flexibility and movement
*Supporting immune function
*Supports optimal metabolism and body comporition
*Balances blood sugar levels
*Supports natural anti-Inflammatory responses

DHA supports healthy mood, mind & memory:
*Supporting learning and memory
*Promotes positive mood and well being
*Supports/protects the brain, eyes and nervous and immune systems
*Essential for proper development in infants and children

GLA supports healthy skin, hair and hormones by:
*Nourishing hair and skin
*Supporting healthy joints
*Enhancing hormonal balance
*Maintains optimal body fat metabolism
*Provides a 'feel good' effect and can improve mood
*Supporting a regular menstrual cycles

Essential Fatty Acids are a great addition to one’s diet, young or old and are especially beneficial for anyone with skin, eye, inflammatory and learning disorders as well as so many others.
It is recommended that 10-20 percent of your calorie intake should be essential fats. The best sources of EFAs are fish oils and flax seed and flax seed oils.

Barlean's Omega Swirls (available in various flavors), Nordic Naturals Fish Oils, Natural Factors Omegas and Carlson Labs' Finest Fish Oils are among some of the finest, high quality EFA supplements that we stock here for you at HealthStyles Market.

Does Your Child Have ADD/ADHD?

Does Your Child Have ADD/ADHD?

"Today, 1 in 5 children suffer from varying degrees
of behavioral issues..."
-Skye Weintraub, N.D. "Natural Treatments for ADD & Hyperactivity"

We Sell Solutions!

In today’s world, behavioral issues are rising at a rapid rate. Studies show that 1 in every 5 children are diagnosed with behavior disorders such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

Two of the most common causes of these behavioral disorders have been shown to be deficiency in EFAs (Essential Fatty Acids) and over consumption of sugars.

Your body uses fat to make cell membranes and protect nerves. This enables the electrical signals in the brain to properly reach its destination and function properly. Not having enough EFAs in your diet can cause this to be out of balance.
Getting an efficient amount of EFAs with plenty of DHA, has been shown to help support the brain and nervous system by boosting mood and enhancing memory, brain function and attentiveness.
Using a children’s omega vitamin is the simplest way to ensure that your child is getting the nutrition they need to support their healthy, growing brain! You can do that with the great tasting brands like: Irwin Natural’s Irwin Kids Omega-3 chewable, Nordic Naturals’ Children’s DHA in chewable or liquid, and Carlson’s Labs Carlson for Kids Chewable DHA!

All kinds of sugar, natural or refined, take an extra effort to be processed and digested in the body. Because of this, excessive sugar intake depletes the body of essential B vitamins as wells as important minerals such as calcium and magnesium. B vitamins are very crucial to the nervous system, and when these vitamins are used up to help process sugar intake, it leaves the nerves weak and vulnerable, resulting in short tempers and mood swings. Sugar also leaches calcium and magnesium from the bones, leaving them weak and depriving your body of natural relaxants.
You can combat this problem with limiting sugar intake in your children’s diet as well as supplementing them with multi-vitamins and multi-minerals. Studies show that supplying your child with efficient amounts of essential vitamins and minerals can help aid in the support of brain, bone and immune development. You can achieve this with great children’s products like Irwin Natural’s Irwin Kids Berrylicious Super Multi chews and Liquid Health’s Children’s Multi in liquid. These are great tasting products that your children will love!
10 Signs Your Child May Have ADD/ADHD
